Sitting on the couch, Draco was waiting for his wife to be home. She had gone out to have fun with some of her friends and left him at home. Probably for a good reason…. Draco thought. When will she be home?
He was waiting as patiently as he could, but he was just really bored and lonely. He wanted to see her.
Just then, to his delight, he heard a knock at the door.
Astoria! He jumped out if his seat and raced to the door to greet her.
When he opened the door, the first thing he saw was her beautiful and sweet face. Warmth bubbled up inside of him, and he leaned over and kissed her. When he pulled himself back, his eyes caught sight of something else in her arms.
A fluffy, purring, bundle.
Shocked, Draco took a step back. “Astoria…? What is that?”
“It’s a cat!” Astoria squealed and giggled.
“I… know what it is…. But why did you bring it home? Where did it come from?”
“I picked it up! I thought it would be nice to have a cat!”
Draco snorted. “Fine… whatever….”
Over the next couple of days, Astoria took care of the cat and enjoyed having it around.
Draco on the other hand, really didn’t care much for it or pay attention to it. He didn’t like it too much, but he was fine with Astoria keeping it. It did make her happy, and that’s what mattered.
But one day, when Draco fell asleep in a chair, he started having a nightmare that he couldn’t awake from. He shook and whimpered in his seat.
Then he felt something rough touch his face right before feeling something much more soft, and he heard a very soft, sweet, and calming sound. He woke up, and there it was: the cat. It had saved him from his nightmare.
“Thank you….” Draco choked out, without even realizing he was thanking a cat.
The cat rubbed it’s head on Draco’s face again and settled down on his lap to sleep. Draco began stroking it, and it continued purring.
The sound and the feeling was just so soothing and calming. Draco was about to fall asleep again when his wife walked in.
“Draco? Are you alright?” Then she saw the cat on his lap.
“Yes, I’m alright, Astoria,” Draco said softly.
“Aawwwwww!” Astoria squealed. “I knew you two would be good friends!”
When his wife left the room, Draco closed his eyes and fell asleep again with the cat on his lap. He didn’t have anymore nightmares for as long as he slept, and when he awoke, the cat was still there, purring.
