Edit created by me, but not all the art is mine
Draco Malfoy is my favorite Harry Potter character, and he’s also a very popular character in the fandom in general.
I personally like him for specific reasons, but there are lots of people who just like him for his appearance in the movies (Tom Felton).
Lots of Draco fangirls like him because movie-Draco is hot, and they say things like “He was just misunderstood!”, “He had no choice!”, “He was always a good (or even perfect) person!”, “He’s innocent!”, “He’s just a poor baby!” Yeah… you get the point….
In the books, Draco was a bad person at the beginning (at least the first five books). Yes, his parents raised him a certain way and heavily influenced him, but his actions were his own responsibility, and there’s no excuse for them. He still made his own decisions.
Why do people even want to try to make Draco seem perfect? Characters shouldn’t be perfect people. That makes them unrealistic and unrelatable. A character can still be a good person without being a perfect one.
Draco wasn’t even a good person for at least the first five books.
Let’s be honest (or at least let me be honest with my opinion 😛 ), child Draco is a stupid, weenie-head, buttface, who always tries to make himself look better than everyone else, but instead, he just does stupid stuff and makes a fool of himself, making him look stupid.
And I LOVE that! I think it’s HILARIOUS!
Alright, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk a little bit more about the progression of his character.
In the 6th and 7th books, he went through a lot of bad things and had a lot of traumatic experiences.
I’d say that he’s still a bit of a bad person, and he definitely still did some bad things, but this is definitely the time in his life that really helped him grow and eventually become a better person.
Draco became a better person as an adult, and he’s a loving husband and father.
I. Just. Don’t. Understand. Why people want to act like he was a good person all along, when he had such a great redemption arc, and if he was always a good person, there would be no reason for him to have a redemption arc, and it wouldn’t be as significant.
Why do “Draco fans” want to ruin Draco’s character and what’s so great about it?
In short, I love Draco’s character and redemption, and I don’t know why people want to change him into some perfect person.
